Did you know that famous outlaw Belle Starr is buried near Porum in Green Country? Married to a Cherokee man, Starr lived on tribal land near present-day Lake Eufaula for several years until she was ambushed and killed on her way back from a neighbor's house on February 3rd, 1889. There were no witnesses, and her murder remains unsolved to this day. You can find her gravesite and a recreation of her cabin at Younger's Bend off of State Highway 71, just a couple of minutes from the Eufaula Dam.
